A BETTER LIVING IN BARCELONETTE
BARCELONETTE, FRANCE
Florian Golay, Fred Guillaud, Mario Perez Botero, Cécile Léonardi, Olga Braoudakis, Square Paysage
2012

"Toward a labeling of living" Barcelonnette is not only the center city of the valley Ubaye or just a stopover town on the touristy route through the valley. It embodies physically the history of the Ubaye and relays this cultural vivacity. The city sets the energetic transition resources on its geographical specificity, while trying to preserve its rich agricultural and natural landscapes. Finally, it focuses much of its development in acknowledge economy, which renews its vocation of the "Valley of the educated." If Barcelonnette is now trying to make it attractive to new residents, new project managers, the main resource it needs to cultivate is the singularity of its living "city-mountain" and its "stand back" way of life it makes possible. We propose a simple and accessible goal that will bring together the investment in a long term and will involve many stakeholders in a shared project. This objective is to enhance and promote the quality of life in the labeling. It seems possible to argue that Barcelonnette can quickly become the first city in the French Alps to get the label Cittaslow, the "international network of cities of the good life."
